Two distilleries, one in Baltimore and one in Frederick, are collaborating on a project to highlight Maryland’s tradition in rye-based spirits.

McClintock Distilling Co. and The Baltimore Spirits Co. plan to separately release two limited-edition gins, both companies announced. Only a few hundred bottles will be produced.

The project uses rye whiskey mash infused with botanicals to make a Genever-style gin. McClintock used mash from BSC’s Epoch Rye and BSC used mash from McClintock’s Bootjack Rye Whiskey.

The project required nearly two years of planning. About half of the gin will be released Aug. 17 at both distilleries. The other half will be aged in used rye whiskey barrels for a future release.
