Alan Lazerow

Assistant United States Attorney
United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland

lazerow-alan-0247Alan Lazerow doesn’t believe he’s successful because of his brilliance. As a rising assistant U.S. attorney, Lazerow believes his success is the result of hard work.

“Some people are naturally brilliant. Unfortunately, I’m not one of those people. I learned early on that I could achieve success only through hard work, whether it be professionally or personally,” he said.

It is through hard work, however, that Lazerow credits his gained confidence and ability to succeed when faced with a challenge. In his current role, he serves as co-lead of the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s civil opioid initiative. His work has helped to crack down on the medical professionals who have overprescribed opioids.

“Although much of the work is nonpublic, working with our state and federal partners, we have used civil tools to complement the work of our criminal prosecutors to obtain the voluntary surrender of DEA registrations of multiple overprescribing medical professionals in Maryland,” Lazerow said.

In addition to his commitment to his career, Lazerow is committed to giving back to the Pikesville and Baltimore/Washington Jewish community. He serves as vice president of Shoresh, Inc., a Jewish outreach organization, and serves on the board of the University of Maryland Hillel. Lazerow is also the president of Wellwood Baseball.
