When Arif Khan was promoted to vice president of pharmacy management several years ago, he became the youngest CareFirst executive in the company’s 75-plus year history.
“After four years of successfully managing the pharmacy business, my role was expanded to oversee our suite of clinical programs,” he said. “I now have (the) responsibility for all key care management programs to help get our 3.3 million CareFirst members connected to high-quality care and help them in their most crucial times.”
Khan earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina. Before coming to CareFirst in 2013, he worked in various roles at Optimity Advisors, including as a manager and senior associate in the health care practice and as a consultant at Navigant Consulting.
“I work and live to help make the lives of the people I serve professionally and personally better in any way I can, be it getting connected to necessary health care services, lowering costs of care or simply being a friend and ally,” Khan said.
Khan holds two corporate board of directors seats — secretary for the Baltimore Medical System and treasurer for Our Three Winners Endowment. This year, he was selected to be a member of LEADERship Baltimore and as one of 20 mentors for the ASCEND Corporate Executive Leadership Program. He also participates in CareFirst Associate Resource Groups as a member of multiple groups, including Asian ARG, Black Professionals Network ARG and Millennial ARG.
“I always look for opportunities where I can not only learn and grow but also help others through my experience and milestones,” he said.
