Christine Hinkle relocated to Maryland from Florida in 2006 after meeting her husband who is in the U.S. Air Force. While taking work through a temp agency, she was hired as a temporary administrative assistant by KCW Engineering Technologies Inc. the same year.
The Glen Burnie-based business company decided to hire her full time and Hinkle has spent the past 13 years rising through the organization working as a billing specialist, office administrator, office manager and assistant chief financial officer. This year, she was named accounting director.
“I always say it is the career I never knew I wanted,” Hinkle said. “It is a blessing. It affords me the opportunity to be flexible when I need to because I have young kids at home still but come to a job that I really do love. I enjoy working with the people that I do. It gives me exposure to new opportunities. I feel like I am never stagnant. There are always new opportunities that the company is taking on that I am involved in. It has been quite amazing actually.”
She is driven by wanting to be a strong female influence for her three sons.
“I want them to grow up knowing that any gender can do anything,” she said. “It is important for me that they treat women with respect and that they see how their father treats me. I have a career and I am still a good mom to them. I am able to go to baseball games and go on field trips. You set a goal and you work hard and you go toward it. You don’t quit when things get tough. You have to keep pushing yourself even when it pushes you outside your comfort zone.”
Serving as secretary on KCW Engineering Technologies Inc.’s corporate board, Hinkle also has supported the House of Ruth Maryland through donation drives of urgent need items, helping to host a Thanksgiving dinner and met with families at the shelter.
