Williams, McClernan & Stack LLC
If one trait could describe Kathleen McClernan-Walz it would be perseverance. McClernan-Walz contributes her perseverance to all of her professional accomplishments, including opening up her own practice specializing in criminal law, and growing it to a thriving woman-owned community firm in Southern Maryland.
“We are building our firm to be an integral part of the community, not a business that just takes from the community. I am proud of the work we are doing and the goals we are striving for in the future,” McClernan-Walz said.
In November 2018, the firm held an Expungement Day in collaboration with the St. Mary’s County Library, the Community Mediation Center for St. Mary’s County and the NAACP, to help citizens expunge old criminal records. The event was so successful her firm held another Expungement Day in March.
“As a private attorney, I am afforded the opportunity to work to better the criminal justice system in fairness to all through advocacy. I hope that we are bringing a greater understanding of attorneys and the legal system to the community as a whole — that we, as attorneys, don’t see ourselves apart from the community, but an integral part of the system,” she said.
McClernan-Walz is the recipient of several awards from The Daily Record, including a 2019 Leadership in Law award, the 2018 Top 100 Women in Maryland award and the 2016 Leadership in Law Generation JD award. She also received the 10 Best Family Attorneys in Family Law award in 2017 and the 2014 Top 40 Under 40 award from National Trial Attorneys.
She received her Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Arizona, and her Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law.
