Ryan E. Middleton

Office of the Prince George’s County Executive
Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff

middleton-ryan-2812According to Ryan E. Middleton, the secret to his success can be traced back to a profound change in attitude that came about when he was in high school. While struggling with geometry, Middleton realized that he was focusing more on his own frustration than the task at hand.

“Right then, I switched gears and decided I would be successful,” Middleton said. “The strategy worked and I was able to work my grade to an A. From that moment on, my mantra has always been that success is a choice.”

That change in approach has paid off handsomely for Middleton. At age 30, the Prince George’s County native has already accomplished more than what many work their entire lives to achieve.

Middleton serves as the special assistant to the chief of staff in the Office of the Prince George’s County Executive. He is also a successful entrepreneur who co-founded Mybestbox, an online fulfillment company that was awarded $100,000 in funding from the Abell Foundation and earned Middleton the Best Entrepreneur award in Under Armour founder Kevin Plank’s Cupid’s Cup competition.

Middleton is currently counsel for Jetpack Inc., which was launched by Mybestbox and makes consumer products available in real time.

But the accomplishment Middleton is most proud of is being named president of the J. Franklyn Bourne Bar Association, the nation’s largest organization of African American lawyers and judges, just five years after joining the association. He is the youngest president in the organization’s history.

“For a membership of such high esteem to place its trust in me to lead them has been the most humbling event of my professional life,” Middleton said. “I have not taken the responsibility lightly and have every intention to pay that mentorship forward.”

In his role with the association, Middleton oversees the organization of scholarship awards and service events geared toward mentoring young minority lawyers as well as serving the larger community. He also mentors a young man through Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
