GSE Systems COO, who commuted to Md. from Texas, resigns

A Columbia company that provides engineering, staffing and simulation software to energy and industrial process firms announced a change in management last week.

GSE Systems Inc. said in a news release that its chief operating officer and member of the board of directors, Chris Sorrells, will leave the company Sept. 30. Sorrells resigned from the board of directors, effective immediately, and from his position as chief operating officer. Sorrells told the board his departure is not because of any disagreements with the company about its operations, policies or practices, GSE Systems said.

The company’s president and chief executive officer, Kyle Loudermilk, will assume Sorrells’ responsibilities. GSE doesn’t plan to fill the COO position. The board will determine what to do about the vacant director seat at its next meeting.

In a statement, Loudermilk lauded Sorrells for commuting from Dallas to Baltimore each week and for staying four years at the company when he initially planned to serve for one year.
