Somerset Construction Co. and Armada Hoffler Properties
The Residences at Annapolis Junction

Environmental Sensitivity

somerset_2cWhen Somerset Construction Company and Armada Hoffler Properties set out to develop the Residences at Annapolis Junction, they had nothing but green living in mind. The five-story, 416-unit luxury apartment community serves as the residential component of the Annapolis Junction, a mixed-use transit-oriented development in Howard County, and earned a LEED Gold certification.

The residences are partially powered by wind energy and feature energy-efficient heating, ventilation and air conditioning and central hot water systems, low-flow plumbing fixtures and Energy Star appliances designed to reduce water, gas and electric usage. Residents can also take advantage of the electric car charging stations, and the green recycling and cleaning program.

According to Neil Greenberg, Somerset’s chief operating officer, the project is Howard County’s first transit-oriented development, and residents have quickly embraced the concept of a lifestyle that makes vehicle ownership optional. In all of its projects, Somerset aims to continue to develop sustainably.

“Somerset is a multi-generational owner that builds quality communities for long-term ownership.  As a result, we use best practices in design, construction and management so that projects will be relevant 10, 20 and 50 years from now,” Greenberg said. “Since we are a multi-generational owner, we use the best mechanical systems and utilize techniques to minimize our environmental footprint.

Armada Hoffler is also focused on sustainable strategies.

“We strive to bring forth environmental conscious building tactics during planning for our construction and development projects,” said Chelsea Forrest, director of marketing for Armada. “We are very proud of the Residences at Annapolis Junction for the commitment to being an environmentally conscious project.”
