Route One Apparel

Ali von Paris has built a successful business by allowing Marylanders to show their pride in the Free State.

In 2010, von Paris founded Route One Apparel from her dorm room at the University of Maryland, College Park. Route One currently sells 3,000 unique items celebrating all things Maryland, including some of its iconic products and designs.

Von Paris, 29, said her products are a way to bring people together around a common identity.

“People feel comfortable approaching someone who may otherwise be a stranger to them, because they share a ‘commonality’ in where they’re from,” von Paris said. “You’d be surprised at the amount of stories we get from people in foreign lands, like on vacation, and stumble across a fellow Marylander.”

Route One works with local manufacturers and businesses whenever possible, von Paris said.

Von Paris has received numerous awards and for her entrepreneurship, including being named a 2017 VIP by The Daily Record and one of Baltimore’s Women to Watch by The Baltimore Sun.

Von Paris serves as a mentor for the Dingman Center of Entrepreneurship at the University of Maryland.
