Senior Director, Strategic Initiatives

Before Elizabeth Burger was named the senior director of strategic initiatives two years ago, she was executive director of Evergreen Health Care, a nonprofit organization that offered insurance on Maryland’s health exchange until it closed in 2017. Burger was passionate about the organization and helped start and end it over a five-year period.
“To see the full life cycle of an organization is not an experience many 34-year-olds can lay claim to and despite the ‘failure,’ I am proud of every decision and activity,” she said.
Now she uses that experience at Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures, where she helps support researchers, inventors and startups connected to the university. She also has leadership positions with several volunteer groups, including Shepherd’s Clinic and Maryland Art Place.
“I want to do work that matters, and I have a liberal definition of what matters,” she said. “I have worked in different organizations and on different causes that have improved the lives of others. I am driven to give my time to any industry or organization that meets that standard.”
