Rosalyn Tang says perhaps the defining moment of her career as a defense attorney was a pro bono case involving a Baltimore man convicted of murder and gun charges and given a lengthy sentence.

Tang said she was able to prove that there was an element of self-defense in the case and the man was given a new trial.

“We continued to represent him and were able to resolve the case favorably by reducing his sentence by 30 years,” Tang said. “I previously served as a prosecutor, and working the case from the defense side widened my perspective considerably. It was a truly rewarding experience.”

Tang, an associate in the Rockville office of Miles & Stockbridge since 2014, said she is involved in mentoring young attorneys with an eye on increasing diversity in the field.

“I strive to inspire change within the legal community by trying my best to serve as a good example,” she said.

Tang is involved with several bar associations, including the Montgomery County chapter of the Women’s Bar Association and the Women’s Bar Association of Maryland.
