There is no obstacle that Sandy Popp cannot overcome. Since taking on the role of chief of staff and assistant to the chairman of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee, Popp completely transformed the behind-the-scenes operations of the committee. When she was tasked with a cybersecurity bill that was destined to fail, she brainstormed, compromised with stakeholders and successfully shepherded the bill to passage with hours to spare on Sine Die.
“Sandy is essential to the operation of the Judicial Proceedings Committee. Her political savvy, sound judgment and exceptional organizational skills make her invaluable both to the legislators who serve on the committee and to the staff who support the committee’s work,” said April M. Morton, senior policy analyst to the Maryland Department of Legislative Services.
An avid animal lover, Popp served on the board of the Chesapeake K-9 Fund and was instrumental in ensuring adequate protection for working police K-9s when left in their handler’s vehicles. Her efforts resulted in the Maryland State Police creating model regulations on procedures for leaving K-9s in vehicles ensuring protecting from heat or exhaustion.
Popp was also recently appointed as advocacy chair of the Linthicum Elementary School PTA. She is working to open the lines of communication and build relationships between the PTA, elected officials and the elementary school.
