BEL AIR — A police chief in Maryland has been placed on administrative leave after a temporary protective order was issued against him, officials confirmed in a statement on Wednesday.

The temporary protective order was issued against Bel Air Police Chief Charles A. Moore Jr. in Harford County Circuit Court on Tuesday, town officials announced.

Bel Air officials and the police department declined to comment further, saying the issue was a personnel matter.

Deputy Police Chief Richard J. Peschek was appointed the interim chief during Moore’s absence, the statement said.
