A jury sitting in the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County convicted John Robert Williams, III, appellant, of three counts of illegal possession of a firearm and related offenses. 1 At sentencing, the convictions for illegal possession of a firearm were merged into one. On that count, in light of appellant’s prior criminal record, the court sentenced appellant under a statutory provision setting forth a mandatory minimum sentence of five years, to be served without the possibility of parole.
