Sykes brings more than 20 years of experience in educational leadership to SEED. Throughout his career, he has worked to balance tradition and innovation to benefit his students and their families. He has a proven record of raising student achievement by establishing professional learning communities, direct coaching of principals, developing meaningful parent and community involvement initiatives, enhancing school climate and culture, and implementing sound school budget priorities.
He has numerous honors and awards chief among them being named Principal of the Year by National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, Administrator of the Year by the College Bound Foundation and New Leaders Roberts Award for School Innovation.
Originally from Baltimore, Sykes started his education career as a classroom teacher and has held various school leadership roles, including principal, throughout his career. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Morgan State University an Master of Education from Coppin State University and is completing doctoral studies at Seton Hall University.
Sykes assumes leadership as the SEED School prepares to complete construction and open the new, state of art CyberLab and its related curriculum.
