Garrett County Public Schools

What do you consider your most significant professional accomplishment?
In 2009, I was recognized as a Maryland’s National Distinguished Principal by the National Association of Elementary School Principals. This program recognizes elementary- and middle-level principals who set high standards for instruction, student achievement, character and climate for the students, families and staffs in their school communities. Being chosen by my Maryland colleagues was humbling. This experience has afforded me the opportunity to share my passion and educational beliefs as I currently advocate for education on a state and national level.

Please share your commitment to mentoring and the impact it has had on your life?
The transformation of Crellin Elementary School began when staff, students and community members collaborated to solve an environmental problem. The journey we embarked on created a cultural shift that gave students and the community a sense of place.
