Deputy Commissioner, Aging and Care Services
Baltimore City Health Department

What do you consider your most significant professional accomplishment?
Former Health Commissioner Dr. Leana Wen appointed me as the deputy commissioner of Aging and Care Services, after a national search to complete her leadership team at the Health Department in 2016. As deputy commissioner, I hold a cabinet-level position in city government and serve as the city’s Area Agency on Aging director. I represent Baltimore both at the state level and national level on aging issues. I am proud to hold this position as a woman of color and a refugee.

Please share your commitment to mentoring and the impact it has had on your life?
As a graduate of the Greater Baltimore Committee Leadership Program, we are encouraged to engage in peer mentoring. I fi nd this kind of mentorship one of most valuable because of the sharing of expertise and counsel it lends.
