Amazon officially opened its second fulfillment center in Baltimore County Aug. 16 with a more than 1 million square-foot facility expands the company’s presence at Tradepoint Atlantic Business Park.
The e-commerce giant also currently operates an 855,000 square-foot robotics fulfillment center at Tradepoint Atlantic, which launched in 2019, with more than 2,500 full-time employees.
Amazon welcomed hundreds of new employees to the state-of-the-art building for the first time to celebrate its Day One of operation. After a morning of training and activities, associates received the first item into the new building: a bulk pack of waterproof socks.
This facility will employ more than 500 full-time associates who will work alongside innovative Amazon technologies, including energy efficient, zero emissions power industrial trucks, to pick, pack and ship larger items to customers across the region, including bulk paper towels, sporting equipment and gardening tools, to name a few.
In Maryland, Amazon currently operates four fulfillment centers – two are located at Tradepoint Atlantic, another in Baltimore city and one more in North East, two sortation centers in Baltimore city, five delivery stations, one Prime Now Hub, one Air Hub, 10 Whole Food Market locations, one Amazon Hub Locker+ locations, one Amazon Book store, and four on-site solar locations.
Amazon has pledged to invest more than $700 million to provide upskilling training for 100,000 U.S. employees for in-demand jobs. Programs will help Amazonians from all backgrounds access training to move into highly skilled roles across the company’s corporate offices, tech hubs, fulfillment centers, retail stores, and transportation network, or pursue career paths outside of Amazon.
