Jennifer Spiegel Berman has become a sought-after speaker and expert in health care reform developments through her work with MZQ Consulting Inc. and the Kelly and Associates Insurance Group Inc.
Berman co-founded MZQ Consulting in 2014, which has helped employers implement the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
“The company continues to thrive with annual revenue of approximately $4 million and clients nationwide,” said Berman, who is also senior vice president of compliance at Kelly Benefit Strategies. “MZQ was founded as the ACA’s employer mandate was about to go into effect. It was apparent to me at the time that compliance with the mandate’s employer reporting requirements was exceedingly complex. Employers were struggling to find help and we founded the company to meet the need.”
At MZQ, Berman is now helping employers work through the federal Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan forgiveness program, and at Kelly, she leads its COVID-19 response team, which advises employers about legal changes in employee benefits and the workplace caused by the pandemic. The team produced 18 live webinars in less than three months for its clients and human resources and broker professionals.
“The key to my success has been my desire to leverage my talents to help people,” said Berman, who has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, a juris doctor from its law school and an executive MBA from Loyola University Maryland. “The work I do helps make the lives of human resource professionals and business owners easier every day by helping to clarify complex compliance concepts. I’m proud that I’ve been able to help during this crisis.”
Berman has the rare genetic disorder, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and helped launch the Ehlers-Danlos Research Foundation. “As co-founder and chair of the foundation board, I am working to expand our understanding and raise awareness, particularly in the medical community, about this little-known and understood condition,” she said.
