Diana Mitchell Emerson
Director of Entrepreneurial Experiences, Director of Community Relations
Junior Achievement of Central Maryland and HARBEL Community Organization
Diane Emerson’s work with Junior Achievement of Central Maryland, which helps young people get the knowledge and skills they need to succeed, and with HARBEL Community Organization, a community umbrella group in Northeast Baltimore, have kept her busier than ever during the current pandemic.
With Junior Achievement, she shifted the high school programs to a virtual setting, and with HARBEL she started a food distribution site.
But being busy is nothing new for Emerson, who in the past has been given a Governor’s Award for Volunteerism.
“I stand out because of my drive to always do more,” Emerson said. “I volunteer almost 25-40 hours a week with a variety of groups to continue to support not just my community but communities throughout Baltimore.
“I believe in being a doer and leading by example.”
Among her volunteer-related activities, Emerson is president of the Junior League of Prince George’s County.
“Inspiring change in my community is a commitment I align my professional and personal goals with,” she said. “I believe strongly that the service we provide is the rent we pay here on earth.”
