Junior Achievement of Central Maryland and HARBEL Community Organization

emerson-dianaDiane Emerson’s work with Junior Achievement of Central Maryland, which helps young people get the knowledge and skills they need to succeed, and with HARBEL Community Organization, a community umbrella group in Northeast Baltimore, have kept her busier than ever during the current pandemic.

With Junior Achievement, she shifted the high school programs to a virtual setting, and with HARBEL she started a food distribution site.

But being busy is nothing new for Emerson, who in the past has been given a Governor’s Award for Volunteerism.

“I stand out because of my drive to always do more,” Emerson said. “I volunteer almost 25-40 hours a week with a variety of groups to continue to support not just my community but communities throughout Baltimore.

“I believe in being a doer and leading by example.”

Among her volunteer-related activities, Emerson is president of the Junior League of Prince George’s County.

“Inspiring change in my community is a commitment I align my professional and personal goals with,” she said. “I believe strongly that the service we provide is the rent we pay here on earth.”
