The Hon. Grace G. Connolly announced her retirement as Register of Wills for Baltimore County March 18.
First elected Register in 1998, Connolly was reelected five times and was the first woman to serve in the role.
Prior to serving as Register of Wills, Connolly was elected to the Baltimore County Orphans’ Court, where she served from 1986 through 1998. In 1990, she became chief judge.
A graduate of the Institute of Notre Dame, Grace also holds a degree in nursing from Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore.
Connolly’s successor will be named in the coming weeks.
William R. Evans, chief judge of the Orphans’ Court, called her the “gold standard” of register’s offices in the state. Through her leadership and dedication, she transformed the Register of Wills to the professional, efficient and customer friendly office of today, he added.
Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski said Connolly is a Baltimore County icon who transformed and modernized the office through her decades of steady leadership.
