What have you had to change during the past year to make sure you were still “serving” even if the approach had to change?
Providing the data science camp virtually and insuring the participants had access to the technology tools required. This meant we worked with the University of the District of Columbia to enable a Zoom platform and provide loaner laptops to those who did not have one.
It also required that we worked with the software vendors to provide in-kind support to educate the facilitators and students virtually.
What about your leadership style has helped grow your career and how have you had to change your leadership role/style during the past year?
My father always said “listen twice as much as you talk” and the consultative style I adopted served me well in the corporate, federal and non-profit worlds. Especially this past year, when I could not be in person and see a person’s body language, I had to really listen and use a lot of emotional intelligence in order to be successful
