Executive Director
Maryland Access to Justice Commission
What about your leadership style has helped grow your career and how have you had to change your leadership role/style during the past year?
My leadership style is both collaborative and directive. Process is important and getting folks to buy in, share their perspectives and have a healthy exchange of ideas leads to better outcomes. Once all the information has been collected and perspectives shared, leaders then need to make executive decisions and trust their gut. Removing ego is key. It’s not about you, it’s about the goal, objective and outcome.
How do you establish a strategy for diversity, equity and inclusion in your organization and how do you use your influential voice to help others understand the importance?
It’s a critical and complex issue. As a woman of color, I am well aware that I am often the only woman of color in many decision-making tables. All of us have to use our voices to end racial inequity and advocate for diverse voices. They only strengthen our organization’s ability to be effective to face challenges.
