Members of the “Embraced” employee resource group for people of color at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) helped celebrate the Juneteenth holiday June 18 at the hospital.

The group set up an informational booth and a roving goodies cart which traveled throughout the hospital, visiting almost every unit to provide information about Juneteenth and what the day commemorates, when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed.

The event also helped raise broader awareness of the group’s mission, which was formed to build community, provide support and help members achieve personal and professional development.
