James D. Taiclet
Chairman, President and CEO
Lockheed Martin Corporation
James D. Taiclet began his professional career in the U.S. Air Force as a pilot and officer. Today, he leads the Lockheed Martin Corporation, one of the world’s largest aerospace and defense sector companies. In June 2020, he was named Lockheed’s president and CEO. Nearly a year later, he became chairman of the board of directors which he has served on since 2018.
A graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy with a degree in engineering and international relations, Taiclet also holds a master’s degree in public affairs from Princeton University. After six years in the military, he worked as a telecommunications and aerospace consultant for McKinsey & Company, vice president of engine services at Pratt & Whitney and president of Honeywell Aerospace Services.
In a move from the defense world, he spent nearly 20 years at American Tower helping to turn the firm into one of the largest global real estate investment trusts and a leader in wireless infrastructure. He joined the company in 2001 as president and chief operating officer and was named chairman and CEO in 2004. He held those titles until March 2020 when he became the company’s executive chairman.
When Lockheed Martin CEO Marillyn Hewson decided to step down in 2020, she handpicked Taiclet to succeed her.
