Founder, Chairman of the Board
Martins Caterers Inc.
Baltimore-born Martin Resnick opened Martin’s Caterers in 1964, in Towson, with help from a Small Business Administration loan he secured after local banks had turned him down.
Five years later, he opened Martin’s West in Baltimore, and the company has grown steadily since then. Martins Caterers Inc. now operates out of seven locations in the Baltimore-Washington region.
The value of taking care of the customer was instilled in him early in his career, Resnick said.
“I understand the importance of being responsive and working hard to never have to tell the client ‘No’,” he said. “The pandemic created a unique set of challenges for business, but we remained steadfast in our commitment to the customer.”
Resnick considers collaboration the key to success, and said getting input, guidance and advice from his staff has helped him make it through the last 15 months. “I also look for influences and ideas in everything I do, in the people I meet and the people I respect,” he said.
Resnick said his passion for Baltimore had been the driving force in his business and his life. It is why, for example, his business has adopted several schools – to give back and help motivate young people.
“My love for Baltimore continues to shine through as one of the founders of the University of Maryland Foundation and 30-plus years on the board of regents for Morgan State University,” he said. “I am excited and proud of the notion that my love and work in the community is influential, as I have always just wanted to share my adoration and respect for the community and its leaders.”
