Philip C. Federico is a founding and senior partner with Schochor, Federico and Staton, P.A.

He has an AV rating in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, the highest rating an attorney can receive for legal ability and ethical standards. He has also been designated as one of the Top 100 Attorneys in Maryland since 2010.

A medical malpractice specialist, Federico became interested in the field when he suffered an injury that wasn’t properly treated during his lacrosse and football careers at Johns Hopkins University, which prematurely ended his playing career. The attorneys Marvin Ellin and Jon Schochor took his case and eventually became professional mentors to Federico.

He continues to maintain a medical malpractice career and has branched out more recently into class action law and mass torts. Federico led the steering committee in the Earl Bradley M.D. sexual abuse case that resulted in a $123 million settlement. He is also co-chairing a consortium of attorneys and law firms in Florida and South Carolina in litigation of opioid cases, representing more than 12 counties and cities.

During the pandemic, he spent time working on the groundwater nitrate contamination Mountaire case that caused cancer and other illnesses. The claim settled for $205 million, of which $140 million is for remediation.

“This settlement will restore the groundwater of 3,000 to 4,000 people and send a message to the chicken/ meat processing industry that they will be held accountable if they fail to act in an environmental responsible fashion,” he said. The case also helped move his law firm to the forefront of the mass tort/environmental law community.

Through the course of his career, Federico said he learned to surround himself with those smarter and more experienced than him. His strongest influences have been the lady who helped raise him, Lucy Wright, various athletic coaches and his law partners – Jonathan Schochor and Kerry Staton.
