Shirley Sutton is the chief executive officer of Baltimore Medical System, a community-based nonprofit that provides access to safe, high-quality and affordable health care. Sutton joined the nonprofit in 2015.
As a former social worker, Sutton leads with an open heart to help those most in need. She has lead multiple for-profit and not-for-profit health care systems as well as managed care organizations in Maryland, Virginia and Washington. Sutton has held executive health care leadership roles at United Healthcare, The Preferred Health Plan, MidAtlantic Medical Services and Chesapeake Health Plan. She also served as the Executive Director for the Baltimore Chamber of Commerce. Before joining Baltimore Medical System, Sutton served as the Vice President of Managed Care and Government Relations for Saint Agnes Hospital.
She is a graduate of the Leadership Baltimore Training program and studied finance and business administration at the College of Notre Dame and Strayer University.
