Mercy Medical Center names critical care unit for former chief

Friends and colleagues of the late Dr. Joseph J. Costa, former chief of Mercy Medical Center’s division of critical care, gathered at the downtown Baltimore hospital Sept. 1 to celebrate his life and legacy and witness the formal naming of the critical care unit in his honor.

In addition, the evening featured presentations by Mercy Health Services President and CEO Dr. David Maine, Sister Helen Amos, RSM, executive chair of Mercy’s board of trustees; Mercy nurse Denny Marshall, RN, speaking on behalf of the hospital’s ICU team; and Dr. Angela Brown, one of Costa’s colleagues.

The event also included the unveiling of a commissioned artwork by Mercy resident artist Andrea “Andy” Cooper, a special presentation by Dr. Costa’s spouse, David Hart and more.
