Introducing The Daily Record’s Power 30 Law

Maryland’s legal community found itself challenged in the last two years by a coronavirus pandemic that delayed trials, made in-person depositions difficult, created new categories of legal actions and otherwise disrupted all of the processes that make our varied legal system function.

Whether it’s a solo practitioner, an in-house counsel, a law school professor, or an appellate court judge – everyone was affected. The state’s lawyers, judges, prosecutors, public defenders, law educators and legal activists have adjusted and adapted.

None have done it better than the 30 men and women you’ll meet in this publication – the inaugural honorees of our Power 30 Law List.

This group was chosen by our editorial team. We reached out to readers and others for input and perspective. Some of the Power 30 are familiar to all of us, but many are known mostly inside their organizations or communities.
You can find this and all our Power Lists on our website, TheDailyRecord.com.

In these pages, we explore how these leaders view the challenges facing the legal profession and hear about their triumphs, achievements and setbacks. We’ve also tried to offer a glimpse into the kind of people they are and what drives them to excel and to serve.

This list is the last in a series of Power Lists throughout 2021 that will showcase the most powerful figures in law, higher education, banking and other fields. The first of these was our Power 100 List, which profiled the most powerful men and women from all fields of endeavor in Maryland.

We hope you enjoy this publication, and we welcome your feedback and suggestions.

Paul DeWolfe has not been the state Public Defender for 23 years. You might want to correct that.
