Colleen Martin-Lauer started her company, Martin-Lauer Associates, 31 years ago. The Baltimore-based fundraising firm has helped support dozens of Democrats over the years, including former Maryland governor and Baltimore Mayor Martin O’Malley, current Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott and Baltimore County Executive John A. Olszewski Jr.

Martin-Lauer Associates also works with nonprofit organizations as well as elected officials and candidates.

She prides herself on the opportunity to be apart of “successful teams” working to elect people to “move the city, state and country I love forward,” she said. Those teams and elected officials have worked to ban Saturday Night Special guns, protect access to abortion in Maryland separate from Roe v. Wade and enact marriage equality, she said.

What’s is the most important life lesson you learned?

Honesty and hard work pay off.

What do you do for fun and why?

I have been married for over 40 years. My husband and I enjoy traveling, the theater and cooking together.
