For more than 25 years, Nicholas Manis has worked as a lobbyist and legislative analyst at Manis Canning & Associates, which was founded in 1991 by his late father, George Manis, and partner Michael Canning.
Manis, who was managing partner at the firm for 21 years, credits his success to what he was able to learn from his father, who he calls “one of the best and most well-respected lobbyists to walk the halls in Annapolis.”
Manis Canning & Associates is the only Maryland firm that holds membership with the National Association of State Lobbyists, which picks the best lobbying firms in each state.
A University of Maryland, College Park graduate and an Annapolis native, Manis has represented local clients such as the Baltimore Ravens and the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants, but his portfolio also includes companies such as Pfizer and the Motion Picture Association of America.
Away from the office, Manis golfs and spends time with his family and friends.
What’s the most important life lesson you learned?
Being born and raised in Annapolis, where my grandparents had restaurants, family comes first. I was taught at an early age that your name is your bond. That no matter what you do or what direction in life you take to always conduct yourself with honesty, integrity and professionalism.
