As president and CEO of Mercy Health Services, David N. Maine, M.D., works with a team to create a vision for the future of the growing, regional medical institution that reflects the mission and values of the Sisters of Mercy. In his work, he aims to cultivate a culture of warmth, success, help so employees can excel and ensuring Mercy provides the highest quality and compassionate care to patients.
Named to the position in July 2020, Maine had previously served in a number of leadership positions with Mercy including executive vice president, president of the medical staff and medical director of The Center for Interventional Pain Medicine. A University of Rochester School of Medicine graduate, he completed his residency in anesthesiology and fellowship in interventional pain medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
What is your proudest professional accomplishment?
To be the first physician to serve as president and CEO for Mercy Health Services, Mercy Medical Center, in the hospitals’ nearly 150 years is humbling, an incredible privilege and the greatest honor of my professional career.
What’s is the most important life lesson you learned?
As a first-generation American, my parents taught me with earnest that success and happiness lies not in the accrual of things, but in serving others, to act always with kindness and treat others with respect and dignity. I try my very best to remember that each and every day.
