As the new president and CEO of University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health, Elizabeth Wise works with team members at all levels of the hospital system to maintain a high quality of care at UM UCH. Her oversight includes overall safety, patient experience, employee engagement and growth and stewardship of UM UCH’s finances.
Prior to joining UM UCH, Wise worked within the Lehigh Valley Health Network in Pennsylvania and served as the president of three of the network hospitals.
Wise holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Seton Hall University and both a Master of Science in nursing and Master of Business Administration from Rutgers University.
Outside of the office, Wise loves to walk the Ocean City boardwalk with her husband, getting exercise and seeing the different performing artists.
What’s is the most important life lesson you learned?
It is always about the team and the people that surround you. You will always be able to carry out the mission and vision of the organization if you have the right team members that are in alignment and focused. That does not always mean that you agree all the time, but when you get to an agreement, you execute on the plan. If the plan needs to be revised, you do so with the wisdom and input from the team.
