Kenneth Samet has been a part of MedStar Health since it was created in 1998. His first job with the health care system was serving as chief operating officer. Now, he is its president and CEO.
As CEO, Samet works closely with the MedStar Health Leadership Team to provide direction and oversight to MedStar Health and to fulfill the mission of the health care system, something that was especially critical during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Samet applauds MedStar’s team of health care professionals for never wavering in their support of the community during the pandemic, a feat that is his proudest professional accomplishment.
“Knowing we earned the trust of our communities and our associates and caregivers at such a time will always be the greatest privilege of my career,” Samet said.
What’s the most important life lesson you learned?
It is hard to pick one, but a few, taken together, keep me grounded. Treat others with respect. Everyone has a voice if you listen. Hold on close to your friends and family. Don’t take yourself too seriously.
What do you do for fun and why?
Golf when I can, which forces me to be “off the grid” for a few hours. And spending time at the beach. The ocean is both calming for me and a reminder of our moment in time.
