McDaniel College hosts reception for Westminster city representatives

As part of the inaugural festivities honoring McDaniel College President Dr. Julia Jasken, the college hosted a reception April 6 at the college for representatives from the city of Westminster.

The event was part of a series of that took place throughout the week to celebrate McDaniel’s collaboration with the city and learn more about the McDaniel College Center for Experience and Opportunity (CEO), the college’s one-stop shop for experiential education and career development for McDaniel students and alumni.

Jasken was inaugurated April 9 as the college’s 10th president in its 155-year history and the second woman to hold the position. She has dedicated nearly her entire professional life to higher education and most notably to McDaniel, beginning in the classroom at McDaniel in 2003 as an English professor specializing in new media pedagogy and teaching a variety of professional writing courses.

Jasken has served in various administrative roles at the college, including as executive vice president and provost, overseeing academic and student life. A champion of both the liberal arts and McDaniel’s student-centered mission, she has overseen the establishment of many of the college’s most important strategic initiatives and most recently, led the Return to the Hill planning efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic. She also served as the chair of the college’s diversity, equity and inclusion administrative team.
