Stulz Air Technology Systems Inc. (STUZ USA), is an air conditioning system supplier in Frederick and the United States arm of a global manufacturer of air conditioning, humidification and dehumidification systems.

Joerg Desler joined Stulz in 1992 and relocated to the U.S. in 2001, where he was responsible for manufacturing, engineering and research and development. He moved to his current position as president and CEO in 2013.

He holds an electrical engineering degree from the University of Applied Sciences, in Hamburg, Germany.

Stulz began as the family-owned Albert Stulz Electrical Appliance Factory in Germany in 1947. The Hamburg-based company expanded into this country in 2001 with the purchase of Air Technology Systems.

Overall, Stulz has six production facilities in five countries and a presence in 130 countries. In North America, the company has 400 employees and some 218,000 square feet of manufacturing and office space and hundreds of sales and service partners.

“It is an unfortunate, yet common reality that many companies will produce the majority of their components overseas and then claim to be ‘Made in America’ simply because the final assembly occurs domestically,” Desler is quoted as saying on the company’s website.

“At we do our own engineering, metal stamping, electrical wiring, powder coating, controls programming, piping, and testing.  To us, this is what ‘Made in America’ means.”
