Margie Shapiro is often heard saying that “we care” is the key difference between Shapiro and its competitors, an online history of the shipping and logistics company relates.

Shapiro is a third-generation leader at the Baltimore-headquartered company, which was founded in 1915 as Samuel Shapiro & Company and is a major player at the Port of Baltimore. Under Margie Shapiro’s leadership, the company built technological and logistics solutions that consider the customer first.

Margie Shapiro was first introduced to the family business at the dinner table and in the summer months during her school years. She took a brief break in advertising, but otherwise has been hard at work in the family business and led the company in twin revolutions in cargo technology and freight solutions.

In 2020, the World Trade Center Institute recognized Margie Shapiro with an International Leadership Award.

“While nobody can quite keep up with her, she finds a way to help us and inspire us with her warm intelligence and boundless energy,” her company bio states.

In 2021, Shapiro selected MERIT Health Leadership Academy for its annual holiday charity program, to help the nonprofit organization meet its goal of empowering students from underrepresented backgrounds to become health professionals.

“In light of the many pandemic-related obstacles our communities have endured, now, more than ever, it’s crucial for us to educate and empower our future public health leaders,” she said in a press release.
