Conscious Venture Partners announced the addition of Terry O’Sullivan, general president of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), to the Conscious Venture Fund II Board of Advisors.
Conscious Venture Partners, the fund manager, fosters a new paradigm of capitalism where companies do not simply generate commercial success while doing good things, but rather are commercially successful because of their focus on the broader societal purpose. They’ve developed a keen ability to help entrepreneurs tell this story – and coupled that with a talent for finding like-minded, philosophically aligned investors to fund growth and innovation.
As a member of the board of advisers, O’Sullivan will provide advice on fundraising, strategic positioning and overall fund operations.
O’Sullivan, president of LIUNA since 2000, is a fierce proponent of companies and organizations which honor the contributions of workers and create family-sustaining jobs. Under his leadership, LIUNA members have thrived in the workplace while also making their voices heard on a wide range of issues, including health care, immigration, retirement security and worker safety. The union’s leadership on economic and jobs-related issues has enabled it to forge partnerships with like-minded investors, contractor associations, public utilities, community groups and faith-based organizations.
As the Chairman of the Board of the LIUNA Charitable Foundation (LCF), O’Sullivan has helped raise and distribute millions of dollars to fund research into the diseases that are the major causes of illness and death among Laborers, their families and the communities in which they live.
O’Sullivan currently serves as the Labor Co-Chairman of the Laborers’ Training and Education Fund, LIUNA’s national training arm. He also holds the following labor and industry leadership positions: Member of the Governing Board of Presidents of North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU); Member of the Executive Council and Executive Committee of the AFL-CIO; Board Member and former Chairman, CEO, and President of the Union Labor Life Insurance Company (ULLICO); Labor Chairman of American Income Life Insurance Company (AIL); Chairman of the National Heavy and Highway Coalition; Member of the Board of Trustees of the AFL-CIO Housing Investment Trust; Board Member of the National Infrastructure Alliance (NIA); Member of the Management Committee of Americans for Transportation Mobility, U.S. Chamber of Commerce; Board Member of America’s Agenda: Health Care for All; and Board Member of the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance.
