Since joining SECU in 2019, Becky Smith has propelled Maryland’s largest state-chartered credit union reputation’s as a reliable, member-centric brand that sets new standards for innovative products and experiences.

She has more than 20 years of experience in integrated marketing leadership and has served in her current role as strategy and growth officer for one year. Her accomplishments at SECU since joining in 2020 include leading SECU’s brand refresh and elevating the traditional mobile or digital banking experience  while also simulating an in-person branch experience.

What’s the most important thing you do in your job?

Painting a vision for where our company is heading, making progress towards that vision and leading with empathy. I believe motivating, inspiring and building culture are so important to an organization’s success.

Who was your most significant mentor and what did you learn from that person?

There are many people I consider to be a mentor. I believe mentors are all around us both professionally and personally. I’ve found that wisdom and inspiration are not always found in long-term engagements, but sometimes, in quick exchanges.

If you weren’t in this industry, what would you be doing?

I’ve always been drawn to the business world. So, if I weren’t in banking, I would probably be running my own business. Whether that be a services business that helps other companies grow or an executive coaching business, it’s tough to say!
