ABOUT DR. DAVID E. KANTER

Resides in:

Howard County

Education:

I earned my bachelor’s degree in psychology from the State University of New York at Binghamton and my medical degree from the State University of New York – Health Science Center at Brooklyn. I did my pediatric residency and neonatology fellowship at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington.

If f you had not chosen your current profession, what profession would you choose and why?

My unrealistic choice would have been rock star, but I was much too practical to pursue that dream. I seriously considered a career in evolutionary biology/anthropology. I was always fascinated by the forces that drove species to develop in certain ways and how those forces impacted the way groups interacted with the world around them.

Favorite vacation:

My favorite vacation to date was a trip to Europe with my wife, daughter and parents. We flew to England where we met friends and toured London with locals. We then hopped aboard a cruise ship that sailed around France, Portugal and Spain ending in Barcelona where we stayed for a few extra days. Our daughter was six at the time and seeing her take it all in made it even more amazing.

When I want to relax, I … :

Play acoustic guitar (and sing badly), write and record original music, play board games with friends and family.

Favorite music:

This is a hard one, as I enjoy all things geeky. I’m a big fan of ’90s grunge and alt-pop music. Favorite bands are Toad the Wet Sprocket and the Counting Crows.

Favorite quotation:

I have two: “Everything in moderation, including moderation.” – Oscar Wilde; and “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” – Albert Einstein.
