As SECU’s president and CEO, Dave Sweiderk notes his proudest accomplishment is a result of the team he leads. They put the “‘heart in banking’ through making significant and relevant connections and contributions to the overall well-being of members and employees,” he said. “Implementing a best-in-class high performing operating model rooted in being a trusted adviser to our members has resulted in record engagement, earnings and unprecedented giving through our SECU MD Foundation.”
With a banking career spanning nearly 35 years, Sweiderk has held several executive positions with increased responsibility. After graduating from James Madison University with a bachelor’s in business administration, he joined Chevy Chase Bank as a management trainee. Over 18 years, he held several positions, including vice president, division vice president and group vice president. He served as executive vice president-managing director for Sovereign Bank, senior vice president of First National Bank of Omaha and executive vice president and chief operating officer for OneAZ Credit Union in Arizona before taking on his current role in 2018.
Sweiderk notes he is most passionate about SECU’s extensive diversity, equity and inclusion commitment.
“In an effort to make DEI part of our DNA, we created affinity resource groups which provide invaluable insights to the wants and needs of our employees, in addition to forming a council and naming a fully dedicated Chief DEI Officer,” he said.
