Walking through the Sandtown-Winchester community where she grew up, Kimberly Ellison-Taylor recalled her first job at a local day care center for a video of the Maryland Association of CPAs. As the chair of the group’s education foundation, Ellison-Taylor has also served as a mentor and motivational speaker.

“I think about this question frequently. What if more students were exposed to accounting? What if more students had an ecosystem that motivated, encouraged and supported them on their journey to becoming a CPA? What if more students saw professionals that looked like them? What if is a question of endless possibilities, but it also needs execution to move beyond good intentions,” she stated for the foundation.

Ellison-Taylor leads KET Solutions LLC, a consulting firm focused on business growth, innovation, strategy, transformation and inclusive leadership. Previously, she served for almost 17 years in leadership roles at Oracle Corporation, advising C-suite executives on cloud solutions that innovate and transform business.

She told a group of students that she decided she would go to college in third grade when an accountant came to her school and said accountants manage the money.

“And I said, you know what? Out of all of the different fields, the things that I can do, I think the person who manages the money — they are needed, they are necessary,” Ellison-Taylor said on the video.

Ellison-Taylor earned an MBA from Loyola University Maryland, where she is now a trustee. She also has a masters in Information Science from Carnegie Mellon University.
