As the Program Director for the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC), Emily Sollenberger supports independent artists, art organizations, and the state’s art sector funding opportunities, professional development, and access to the arts.
Sollenberger has been instrumental in helping MSAC grant over $14 million in emergency funding to artists and art organizations in the last two years and plans to grant an additional $40 million this year. She is also a participant in the Mellon Foundation and National Coalition of Arts Preparedness & Emergency Response’s first ever Crisis Analysis & Mitigation Coach Pilot Cohort to develop a national network of arts responders.
She leads workshops in the Maryland, D.C., and Virginia metropolitan region to extend the work the group has done.
Sollenberger also serves as the Fundraising Vice President on the board of the Junior League of Baltimore. She supervises and mentors the Wise Penny, a thrift store owned and operated by the Junior League whose proceeds fund community projects.
“I’ve committed myself to learn, growing, and support this sector given the number of crises that have, and continue, to occur (man-made or environmental), which has contributed to my personal growth in bringing emergency preparedness to the arts in Maryland,” she said.
Sollenberger has previously worked with other nonprofit art organizations.
She received her Master of Arts Administration from the Savannah College of Art and Design.
