Kate Lawrence grew up in the construction industry and now uses her legal expertise to help members of that industry succeed.
Lawrence is the founder and partner of Lawrence Law LLC., a boutique Baltimore law firm she established in 2013 to build a construction law practice.
“Construction people are hard-working, gracious people who are good at what they do but need trustworthy guidance on the business and legal sides of things,” she wrote. “When I became an attorney, I was drawn to construction law and working to protect contractors and make sure they are paid the money they’ve earned.”
Lawrence said she also supports women. Her firm which has grown to 10 employees is one of only a few Maryland law firms accepted into The National Association of Minority Women Owned Law Firms. Flexibility is key to offering women support in her profession, she wrote.
“Law is one of the oldest professions and it is still mostly male-dominated and I think that has a lot to do with the hours that it requires.”
Lawrence is active with the Greater Baltimore Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors and has served as board liaison for its diversity committee. She has also provided pro bono legal services and other support to the Baltimore training program, Project Jumpstart, which helps people with criminal backgrounds enter the construction industry.
Lawrence earned her law degree from Cleveland State University, Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.
