A personal injury attorney for 25 years with the Rockvlle law firm of Stein Sperling, Jolie S. Deutschman has been honored as both a Maryland

What’s the most important thing you do in your job?
I help injured people find answers after an accident when their lives have been upended through no fault of their own. Having an advocate to guide you when your life has been altered by an accident can make all the difference in being able to function and get medical attention and financial direction you need.

What is one aspect of your profession you would like to change?
I would like for people to have greater information from their insurers and agents. Unfortunately, when you buy insurance, that doesn’t mean the insurer is working for you — they’re big business with self-interests.

If you weren’t in this industry, what would you be doing?
I’d like to think I’d be doing something to help people. That is what has always driven me and continues to do so. However, there’s always the thought of opening an ice cream shop in a small mountain town — people are always happy when they have ice cream.
