In her 20-plus career as a trial attorney, Sheila F. Fleshman has represented hundreds of people in cases of negligence and recovered more than $1 million for them in damages.

Among her successes include a woman who required back and shoulder surgery after an automobile accident was offered $8,000 by her insurance company, who claimed the woman’s injuries were pre-existing. Fleshman took the case and a jury awarded the woman $280,000. Another woman was seriously injured when part of a ceiling fell on her in an apartment complex laundry room. The complex owners denied any prior knowledge that the ceiling was defective and claimed the woman was not as badly injured as she said. Fleshman represented the woman, refuted the owners’ claims and the case was settled for $300,000.

An attorney with the Marlboro firm of Sasscer, Claggett & Butcher, Fleshman has been recognized for her success in the courtroom with, among other awards, an honorary governor’s citation and her work has been the subject of published reports and opinions. Fleshman is a graduate of Tufts University, in Medford, Mass., and the George Washington University School of Law, in Washington.

Before joining Sasscer, Claggett & Butcher, she was an assistant state’s attorney for Prince George’s County, where she handled a variety of cases that included homicides and drug offenses.
