Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott awarded a $950,000 grant to Banner Neighborhoods to provide office space and programming in an under-resourced community in east Baltimore.
The grant was part of the Mayor’s Office of Recovery Programs’ (MORP) third round of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grants to address community development, youth services, food insecurity and vulnerable communities throughout Baltimore.
The funding will be used to transform an unutilized space at 1819 E. Preston St. Once the renovations are complete, the building will contain offices and co-working space to hold a workforce development center, commercial kitchen for teaching and hosting events and multi-purpose space for events and physical activity.
Banner started as a mission to help seniors to keep their houses in good repair and has blossomed into a community empowerment mission. Scott has been committed to providing healthy and sustainable environments for Baltimore, recognizing Banner’s work to provide after-school, weekend and summer learning experiences for 250 neighborhood children and youth per year and helping them develop life skills not often taught in school.
