Dorothy J. Lennig

For nearly 35 years, Dorothy J. Lennig has served as an attorney for the House of Ruth Domestic Violence Legal Clinic.

In her role as the clinic’s director since 1994, she supervises and directs the domestic violence litigation and advocacy efforts. She also advocates on behalf of the nonprofit as their registered lobbyist for the Maryland General Assembly.

Lennig is the vice-chair of the Governor’s Family Violence Council. She is also a past chair of the Maryland State Bar Association’s Family and Juvenile Law Section Council, past chair of the Baltimore City Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team, and the co-chair of the Bar Association of Baltimore City’s Family Law Committee and its Task Force on the Effect of Domestic Violence on Children. Lennig has also previously served on Mayor Brandon Scott’s Public Health and Safety Transition Committee.

Lennig’s reputation spreads far beyond the courtroom. She has been selected to Super Lawyers eight times since 2008, earning the honor in consecutive years from 2008 through 2012 and again from 2019 through 2021. This selection is based off of an evaluation of 12 indicators including peer recognition and professional achievement in legal practice.

She received her Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School Law in 1987 and was admitted to the bar in the same year.
