Sheldon Stein

President and CEO
Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital

For two decades, Sheldon Stein has worked to elevate Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital as a leader in post-acute pediatric care.

This year, he and his team have launched the largest fundraising campaign in the hospital’s 100 year history: Hope Heal Grow: The Centennial Campaign for MWPH. The $15 million campaign will be used to expand and grow the hospital and invest in the future of Maryland’s children through the funding of new programs and innovative technologies.

In 2006, Stein played a pivotal role in establishing the historic joint ownership of Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital with two leading academic medical systems: the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) and Johns Hopkins Medicine.

As a leader, he ensures the team has the resources and tools they need to succeed.

“It’s not enough to have defined values; they must be authentic to your company’s culture and truly reflect your mission and vision,” Stein said. “From there, CEOs must walk the talk, making the company’s values their North Star. From the hiring process to employee evaluations, your values should directly connect to all facets of your business.”

During his tenure as CEO, revenue has increased 117%, going from $28,799,167 in 2002 to $62,459,718 in 2020. Prior to becoming CEO, he was the vice president of patient care services at MWPH.

Stein earned his bachelor’s degree from The State University of New York Stony Brook and his MBA from the University of Colorado. He was a 2017 fellow at The American College of Healthcare Executives, and is a committee member of the Children’s Hospital Association and the Maryland Hospital Association.
